Think Green
Whether you believe in global warming and its causes or not, we can all agree that we should and can do a better job of taking care of Mother Earth. We can all contribute to earth's continuing beauty by doing some very simple things:
- Start with Soil...
Soil amended with organic matter drains more efficiently and stores water more effectively by conserving water.
- Mindful Mulching...
Mulch helps to retain moisture and temperature, prevents erosion and blocks weeds.
- Water Wisely...
Water deeply once week (rain depending) to develop deep root systems and thus develop plants that require less frequent watering. This leads to less erosion. Water in the morning!
- Helpful Hedges...
Plant a tall evergreen hedge on the north side of your house to cut down on heating costs and on the south side to reduce cooling costs.
- Longer Lawn...
Longer grass shades the soil and grass roots, deceasing water needs for lawns. Maintain your lawn height to 2.5 - 3 inches.
- Friendly Fertilizing...
Less is more when fertilizing. Fertilize in smaller amounts more often and use slow release or granular fertilizers to cut down on waste.
- Plant a Tree or Three...
Trees act as natural pollution filters. Planting trees remains one of the cheapest, most effective means of drawing excess CO2 from the atmosphere.
